Chicago Public Schools has failed to maintain one of the most historic buildings in Altgeld Gardens: the historic "C Building" at 839 East 132nd Street. CPS is now planning to tear it down and replace it with a playground. We need to stop the demolition of this building! Tearing this building down will jeopardize opportunities for revitalization via historic landmark status. Its preservation can lead to needed community assets like a grocery store. CPS must stop the demolition and give the community control of the building. As taxpayers we demand that Chicago Public Schools pull its contract to demolish the “C Building." We demand a meeting with stakeholders so officials understand that the “C Building" can serve as a community hub and provide social services and trainings for citizens on the far Southside of Chicago.
